We apologize for the length of this post, but a lot has happened in the last few days. Most importantly, we made it! The traveling portion of our journey is over, and it wasn't nearly as bad as we were expecting...it involved plenty of sleeping and movie watching. The worst part was the initial boarding of our plane from Chicago...2 re-bookings later we finally got onto a flight and made our connecting flights just in time! Let's just say, we'll never fly United Airlines again! Air Canada, however, was extremely accommodating :)
The little plane on the screen is finally over Sydney! |
So...about 30 hours of traveling later...we made it to Sydney! We headed straight for the hotel, checked in, went out to grab some lunch and then came back for a quick nap before checking out the city and the amazing Sydney Harbour and Opera House!

The weather in Sydney is in the mid-low 60's. We were laughing at all of the Aussie's who were dressed in thick winter coats and hats...but after being out in that for a little while, it started to get a little chilly and we began to rethink our clothing options! Definitely at least layered long sleeve weather! That said, it is still gorgeous! The sun was out and it looked like a gorgeous Fall day in the States. Here are some photos from while we were walking to the harbour...
It seemed very surreal when we finally got there. There were a lot of people hanging out around the harbour waiting for some special events...

We were lucky enough to be in Sydney during the Vivid Sydney festival...artists install art installations all over the city that utilize light in one way or another. One very cool thing that we were able to see was a giant light projection piece covering the Opera House at night...

The Opera House lit up, pre-light show. |
After the light show, we walked back to the hotel through Hyde Park, which was beautiful, even at night. We made some stops to take a few pictures on the way as well.

There are many different types of eucalyptus trees, and they're everywhere. |
Still a little jet lagged. Last night was our first night in our new "home" for the next 7 weeks. We fell asleep at 7, woke up at 1:30, had some tea and went back to sleep until about 6:30. Our next post will be a little about Canberra and Strathnairn. It may or may not include 3 horses, a pony, chickens, turkeys, quail, parrots, a quaint cabin, studio and a gorgeous view ;)
Till next time. <3
Angie & Adam-
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful there! You'll be in shock that you are living there the whole entire time. I don't think that feeling ever goes away (it hasn't yet for us at least).
I wanted to say that another comfortable airline is Alaska Air. Even in their waiting section in the airport, they have larger, more comfortable chairs.
I also wanted to tell you- about the videos. Get a youtube account! You can block it from strangers, and that way, you can post a link to the videos of you guys. Waaaayyy less work than trying to format and upload to here.
Can't wait to read more about your travels!
Ok, great tip Leah! Thanks, I'm going to try that! I wasn't too sure how I was going to go about doing that otherwise...I'm not too computer savvy!
ReplyDeleteWe flew Alaska Air when we flew to and from Washington state and it was a good airline...we're learning from all of this, that's for sure!
