3 days, 10,243 miles

That's how long, and far, we will be traveling starting bright and early Tuesday morning!

For those of you that don't know, Adam is in graduate school for ceramics. Artists are often asked to do residencies at schools or art associations. This gives them the opportunity to teach, lecture, exhibit their work, and give demonstrations. It's also a great way to make new connections with people in the field. Typically, students do not get offers for residencies, since they would prefer to have a seasoned/professional artist. Adam applied for a residency at Strathnairn Art Association (in Canberra, Australia) a few months ago, and he got ACCEPTED! So that means...off to Australia we go!

We leave for Australia at 6:15 am on Tuesday, and we will be on the move until 8:00 am THURSDAY! We leave at 6:15 am from Alton, on a bus to Bloomington. From Bloomington we head to Chicago via train, then it's a flight to Vancouver, a flight to Sydney, and FINALLY a bus to our final destination...Canberra, Australia! Something tells me we MAY end up being a little jet lagged once we're there.

Today was filled with cleaning, packing, and picking up some last minute things. This is what our living room looked like mid-day...

A little chaotic I'd say! And overwhelming, to say the least.

It's been very strange trying to get our apartment ready to be vacant for about 8 weeks. We're trying to make it as easy to come back to as possible (e.g. no cleaning or laundry to do, and no smelly trash/food items).

We've also recently received our converted Australian dollars...Adam thinks they look like Monopoly money :) We both agree that their currency is much more interesting (and pretty!) than ours...

And they're all different sizes, which is pretty cool. They each have a different clear plastic "window" in them, I guess to make them more difficult to counterfeit.

Lots of planning has gone in to this trip, and it's pretty much here! We can't believe it...but we couldn't be more excited to see what experiences lie ahead of us these next 2 months! Thanks to our wonderful families who have been more than generous, helpful and supportive! We love you :)

I guess it will be a few days until we really have anything to post again, so until then...stay safe and have fun! We'll talk again soon.

  1. Cute blog! The money is crazy! I'd like to see the size of a 500 note, I bet that'd be difficult to fit in your wallet. I look forward to reading about your escapades. Be safe traveling and have a good trip. Good luck! Love you two!

  2. Lol play money. You should see Euros! Does the Australia money have 200's and 500's? Euros do. I like it. And, we have 8 other currencies at the bank... Danish Krona, Swiss Francs, Swedish Krona....just to name a few. They all look crazy. I do think I like how they get bigger though. People say its because its nicer to the blind. They can tell the difference between denominations waaaayy easier. And now that I think about it, how difficult is it for them to tell the difference between USD?

I love that you started this! Hopefully you're better at yours than I am at mine lol

    Can't wait for more adventures!
